The Church of Jesus Christ
What is the Church? Is the Church of Jesus Christ a building? Is it a single assembly or is it the universal body of Christ?
These are good questions. We hope that this study helps you to better understand the Church of Jesus Christ.
There is only one Church under the Lordship of God and His son Jesus Christ. Of this one Church, there are local bodies (churches) that serve towns, cities and regions. Jesus is the Head of the Church (Ephesians 1:22).
Paul the Apostle lays out the details of God’s Church in this Scripture.
“4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you also were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.“
You see verse 6? “one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” Just one! Not two and not hundreds. God the Father of Jesus Christ is the God of the Universe.
Recognizing the Church
The Church of Jesus Christ will always have the traits of their Master Jesus Christ. He is God’s Son and exact representation of His being.
Take a moment to read the rest of Ephesians chapter 4 (verses 8-32).
When reading this Scripture, you soon begin to realize that God empowers His people to live holy lives. Lives that are very different from the world.
He commands the following:
- Use of Gifts, Roles
- Speaking Truthfully
- Performance of hard work
- Respect for others
The Church lives by the Spirit. Read Galatians 5 :13-19. Live by the Holy Spirit.
